Reports from mobile operators worldwide indicate that the popularity of ‘retro’ arcade games played on mobile phone handsets is continuing unabated. Last year’s best-selling mobile game on four of the world’s largest cellular networks, including Vodafone, was Namco’s ‘PAC-MAN’ which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The cellphone version of the classic game was launched in Japan in 1999, and in 2004 sales figures show that ‘PAC-MAN’ downloads increased on a month-by-month basis throughout the year.
