Mobile phones to exceed fixed lines

11 Apr 2005

According to the Pakistan Times, the use of mobile phones in Pakistan is set to exceed landline connections in the next few years, with the fixed line market having stagnated as customers look to mobile phones for higher quality of services and cheaper rates. Despite the wireline sector having been liberalised in 2003, Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) remains the dominant provider of fixed line services. In the mobile market, on the other hand, competition is high, with four established cellcos – Mobilink, Paktel, Pakcom and Ufone – all competing against each other for customers, and two new players – Warid Telecom and Telenor – also having recently launched.
