8 Apr 2005

Recently launched state-run cellco Libyana has signed a USD38.5 million network expansion deal with Chinese equipment maker ZTE Corp. Under the terms of the deal, ZTE will provide Libyana with technical support for three years. The cellco launched services last September in the cities of Tripoli, Beghazi and Sebha, competing with former incumbent El Madar. At the end of March 2005 it claimed around 186,000 subscribers. It hopes to expand its reach to 45 cities across the country in the near future.
