Japanese cellco NTT DoCoMo signed up the highest number of new customers of the country’s three main mobile operators in March. It added a net 480,200 users during the month, to take its total to 48.83 million. Of the new subscribers, 1.26 million were signed up to its 3G ‘FOMA’ service, taking the total to 11.5 million. DoCoMo’s main rival KDDI added 436,100 users to its au mobile unit in the month to take its total to 19.54 million; of these, 17.94 million were 3G subscribers, up 541,600 from the previous month. Third place operator Vodafone KK, however, saw its customer base decline by around 7,400 to 14.01 million. Its 3G customers, on the other hand, increased by 241,900 to 917,200.
