Telefónica’s Movistar move

6 Apr 2005

Spain’s Telefónica Móviles has said it plans to invest EUR75 million on the relaunch of its Movistar brand name. The relaunch will cover both its domestic operations and its subsidiaries in twelve Latin American countries, but joint ventures it has with Portugal Telecom in Brazil and Morocco will continue to operate under their existing names. Telefónica boosted its presence in Latin America last year with the acquisition of ten operators from the US firm BellSouth.
