Mobile competition heats up

The mobile market in Brazil is hotting up after a quiet period, with operators slashing handset prices to as low as BRL129, down from BRL249 last quarter, in a bid to sign up new subscribers. The mobile sector grew by 42% in 2004 to 65.6 million subscribers, and is expected to increase by a further 20% – 25% this year.
