Vodafone gets OK for 3G sites in Auckland

4 Apr 2005

The 3G rollout plans of Vodafone New Zealand have been given a major boost after Auckland City Council approved its plan to install 19 roadside infrastructure sites in the region. Vodafone is ploughing NZD250 million (USD177 million) into 3G and Auckland is at the centre of the company’s plans to launch next generation services in New Zealand’s major cities by July. The cellco’s main rival, Telecom Mobile, launched UMTS services last November, though its initial NZD40 million roll out has been on a far smaller scale than that proposed by Vodafone.
