Five new manufacturers to enter mobile handset market

1 Apr 2005

China’s National Development and Reform Commission has granted new concessions to five vendors for the manufacture of mobile phones and wireless equipment in the country. Shenzhen Huawei, Qingdao Hisense, Dalian Daxian Pantech, Ningbo Aux and Jiangsu Gaotong are the first companies to be licensed under last month’s amendment to the rules governing investment in the wireless market. The five companies will be permitted to jointly produce up to eleven million handsets annually.
