Guyana’s president, Bharrat Jagdeo, has announced plans to issue a third GSM licence in the next few months. He hopes that a new operator will improve the quality and availability of mobile services in the country. Guyana’s mobile market is currently home to two cellcos, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), which claimed around 150,851 wireless customers at the end of 2004, and Cel*Star, which had around 10,000.
