T-Mobile and Deutsche Bahn on track for high speed internet

29 Mar 2005

German wireless operator T-Mobile and rail company Deutsche Bahn are preparing to launch trials in the third quarter of this year to test the first wireless internet access system on board high speed ‘ICE’ trains. As part of the joint ‘Railnet’ project, 20 German rail stations will also be equipped as wireless hotspots, enabling travellers to access the internet with mobile computers in all public areas. If the pilot scheme proves successful, the companies’ aim is to extend wireless internet services to all of Deutsche Bahn’s high speed trains and the 80 largest train stations in the country.
