Kenyan cellco Safaricom has predicted that it will have 3.5 million customers by March 2006, thanks to rapid growth in the country’s cellular market as competition in the sector heats up. Safaricom recently integrated a new intelligent network (IN) platform into its network, with the help of Chinese equipment supplier Huawei Technologies, and has allocated over KES6 billion for the construction of over 300 new base transceiver (BTS) sites.
