PTCL to invest USD40 million into submarine cable

Pakistan’s dominant telco Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) has revealed plans to invest USD40 million into the construction of SEA-ME-WE-4 that will link South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The cable is expected to be completed by September 2005. It will be known as SEMEWE-4.

Meanwhile reports in the local press have predicted that Pakistan’s telecoms sector will attract investments of USD5 billion to USD6 billion in the next five to six years, because of the excellent potential for growth.
