Omani incumbent Omantel and state-owned Yemeni local and long-distance monopoly operator Public Telecommunication Corporation (PTC) yesterday tied up the final part of a deal to link their respective countries with a new fibre-optic cable system. Omantel will supply the cabling for the project which will predominantly be used for voice telephony services, though the two operators are discussing using the system for internet services. A timetable for the project has not yet been announced.
