Report slams Uruguayan broadband market

23 Mar 2005

A report from Uruguay is suggesting that the country has one of the world’s most expensive ADSL markets and that the sector is lagging behind that of many of its Latin American neighbours. Local newspaper La República has found that the average monthly charge for a 512kbps connection in Uruguay is USD149, while in Chile it is USD44, in Brazil it is USD41 and in Argentina the same connection costs just USD34 a month. The report also says that while 512kbps is used as the entry-level speed in most markets, in Uruguay the bulk of subscribers actually have 256kbps links.
