Leonid Reiman: 85% cellular penetration by year end

The Russian IT and Communications Minister, Leonid Reiman, says that 85 out of every 100 Russians will own a mobile phone by the end of this year, noting that cellular penetration in Moscow and St Petersburg has already reached 103%. Speaking to delegates at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Reiman said that countrywide the figure currently stood at 54%. Russia’s mobile industry generated revenues in excess of USD8 billion last year; this is expected to rise to USD10 billion in 2005.
