Telefónica plans to double DSL speeds

18 Mar 2005

Telefónica has asked the Spanish telecoms regulator CMT for permission to launch two new DSL services which it hopes will help it recapture lost market share. According to Cinco Dias, the telco wants to launch an 8Mbps service and an ADSL2 Plus service, both of which offer considerably quicker data transmission than its current broadband services, which range from 512kbps to 4Mbps. The regulator is expected to take around one and a half months to reach a decision. Telefónica says it will invest around EUR80 million in implementing the new offerings.
