Oman’s minister for telecommunications, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Harthy, said yesterday that the arrival of new mobile market entrant Nawras Telecom will create a ‘win win’ situation for the whole sector and the country’s subscribers in general. Speaking after Nawras’ official inauguration ceremony yesterday, the minister said that the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) had taken the strategic decision to licence a second wireless operator to create healthy competition between Nawras and Oman Mobile, owned by Oman Telecom, and facilitate the development of new value added services to benefit end users. He added that further opportunities would be created shortly in the telecoms sector, including global tenders in the fixed line, value-added and ISP sectors.
