America Movil wants to boost Brazilian share

Mexico-based America Movil, has announced plans to boost its market share in Brazil by around half, from 21% to 30%. The operator, which operates in the country under the name Claro, said that it will increase the figure mainly through acquisitions in the country; it is known to have its eye on cellco Telemig Celular Participacoes. At the end of 2004 American Movil claimed 56.7 million subscribers in Latin America, 13.7 million of which were in Brazil. It is currently the second largest operator in Brazil, behind Vivo.
