New fibre-optic network for Telkom

4 Mar 2005

Indonesian wireline operator Telkom has revealed plans to roll out a new fibre-optic network in 2005 to strengthen its backbone in Java, Sumatra and the Kalimantan Islands. The network, which will run along the seabed, will connect Jakarta, Pontianak and Batam, and provides an alternative to the wireline networks should they experience any problems. Telkom will begin the deployment next month. The project is expected to cost around INR300 billion (USD32 million).
