KT Corp has pledged to invest KRW20 billion (USD19.9 million) in the second quarter of 2005 to upgrade its fixed line networks in Busan, Daegu, Suwon and Anyang. Phone services in the four cities went down earlier this week after a sudden surge in traffic on Monday, which the company’s networks failed to cope with. KT has been criticised for being slow at advancing its network infrastructure since its privatisation in 2002, but it hopes that the investment will help to rectify this.
