GSM grows by 169% in 2004

According to a report by 3G promotion company 3G Americas, the number of GSM customers in the Caribbean and Latin America grew by 169% in 2004 to around 60 million. 15 million new GSM customers were added in the region during the fourth quarter of 2004 alone. GSM users now outnumber CDMA customers in Latin America – there were around 40 million at the same date – and the technology is also expected to overtake TDMA in 2005.
