Carphone boss scoffs at Netonomy’s 3G report

28 Feb 2005

According to Carphone Warehouse supreme Charles Dunstone, sales of 3G phones in his retail outlets accounted for 20% of all handset sales in the last quarter, and sales are expected to gather pace as competition in the British 3G market intensifies during the course of the year. Moreover, Dunstone predicts that Christmas 2005 will be ‘the big 3G Christmas’, when consumers have the choice of services from four service providers – 3, Vodafone, Orange and O2. Mr Dunstone’s comments come in response to a recent report published by Netonomy which suggests that only 4% of mobile owners are thinking of upgrading to the new high speed service.
