sparq* selects Nortel for island-wide 3G/xDSL data solution

24 Feb 2005

Taiwanese telecoms operator New Century InfoComm (sparq*), has selected Nortel Networks to provide it with a national data network to cater for rising business and consumer demand for 3G voice and data services, and to support the aggregation of rising xDSL traffic. According to the vendor, sparq*, which is owned by the Far Eastern Group, has implemented this network for domestic 2G operator and UMTS licensee Far EasTone – also a subsidiary of the Far Eastern Group. The new system will use Nortel’s Multiservice Switch (MSS) portfolio to reduce ongoing network operational expenses by amalgamating disparate network traffic across a packet core, as well as cutting wireless backhaul costs by converging and aggregating voice and data traffic to reduce leased line expenses.
