Australian telco Optus has placed a AUD100 million (USD80 million) order with Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies for the supply of new broadband internet infrastructure based on the ADSL 2+ standard. Huawei beat UK equipment vendor Marconi to the contract after reportedly offering discounts of up to 25% for the new network, which will ultimately offer download transmission rates suitable for video on demand services.
