New wireless broadband licences up for grabs

22 Feb 2005

Hong Kong’s regulator the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) is planning to auction at least seven new licences for broadband wireless access (BWA) services in the 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz band, either in the second half of this year or early 2006. OFTA says a public consultation on the proposed BWA licences, which it claims will be cheaper than UMTS concessions, is scheduled for 14 March 2005.
