South Africa’s communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri has identified Indian telecoms group Tata as a key investor in the country’s second national operator (SNO). The minister’s statement at a press conference on Friday followed her announcement earlier in the week that the SNO had attained a full complement of shareholders, with Tata gaining 26% of the new company’s stock via its African arm Tata African Holdings. Matsepe-Casaburri added that, while she didn’t have a handle on likely amounts, the Indian investment capital will cover aspects including technology and provision of expertise.
