SPT to launch DSL

9 Feb 2005

The Australian business services provider SP Telemedia (SPT) has announced plans to launch a DSL broadband internet service in the east of the country. SPT already operates a network with 190 interconnect points on the eastern seaboard, and the company’s chairman Rob Millner says the new service is ‘essential’ to its business, ‘providing last mile connectivity to existing and future data network customers’. In November last year SPT acquired the business network operator Comindico and took a 30% stake in the voice telephony firm B Digital. SPT recently won a AUD100 million contract to provide core network services for the New South Wales government’s State Broadband Service project and is one of three bidders for the second part of the contract which could be worth up to twice as much again.
