By the end of 2004 mobile phone subscriptions in Colombia reached 10.4 million, according to the Communications Ministry. In the fourth quarter alone the three main operators – Comunicación Celular (Comcel), Colombia Móvil (Ola) and BellSouth Colombia (now owned by Telefónica Móviles) – signed up 2.5 million new customers between them, with all three employing aggressive marketing campaigns. Comcel finished the year with 5.8 million subscribers, followed by BellSouth / Telefónica with 3.3 million and 1.3 million Ola network users.
