The need for speed heats up down under

3 Feb 2005

Aussie ISP iiNet claims to have launched the fastest residential ADSL service in the country, offering speeds of up to 8Mbps for those living within range of their DSLAMs. iiNet began rolling out its own equipment last June and currently reaches around 20,000 customers. Charges for the 8Mbps service start at AUD23.17 per month for a 500Mb download allowance, rising to AUD70 for a higher limit. iiNet plans to offer speeds of up to 20Mbps once the Australian regulator has approved the use of ADSL2+ technology.
