BT beats off France Télécom in GBP35 million Thales deal

1 Feb 2005

In a major coup, UK incumbent BT Group has signed a GBP35 million deal with Paris-based defence electronics group Thales, beating off a rival bid by France Télécom. The five-year deal, expected to be announced today, involves the supply of fixed voice and data services to Thales and its subsidiaries in 42 countries, including the domestic market. BT has scored some key victories in the managed IT services sector – a segment seen as crucial in its expansion plans. It recently inked deals with the Dutch police force, the Bavarian state government and the Ministry of Administration in Spain, indicating its ability to win international contracts ahead of incumbents which would previously have thought their bids secure.
