Japanese cellco NTT DoCoMo has revealed that operating profit for the nine months to December 2004 fell by 10.9% to JPY751.35 billion, which the company attributed to a price war in the country, with the mobile operators competing with each other to offer the cheapest price. Net profit, however, still rose by over 50% thanks to a JPY501.78 billion gain from the sale of its 16% stake in US cellco AT&T Wireless. Monthly ARPU stood at JPY7,300 for the nine-month period, while the total number of 3G subscribers reached 8.5 million, nearly triple the figure recorded a year earlier.
