Tele2 calls for changes to wireless licences

21 Jan 2005

Tele2 has called on the Polish telecoms regulator URTiP to structure the forthcoming wireless tenders in such a way that non-incumbent operators are not at a disadvantage. Tele2 claims that as it stands, the concessions will simply go to the highest bidder, which could mean that one of the three existing operators could make a play for the frequencies in a bid to ensure that no further competition emerges. Tele2 would like to see the scoring process for bidders to be amended do that new operators be awarded 100 points rather than the suggested 40; it has also called for a EUR10 million and EUR100 million limit to be placed on the GSM and UMTS licences respectively.
