Matáv to adopt parent company DT’s brand names

21 Jan 2005

Hungary’s dominant telecoms service provider Matáv says it plans to start using the brand names of its German parent company Deutsche Telekom (DT). Following the move, Matáv will adopt the name Magyar Telekom and its fixed line unit will trade as T-Com. Internet services, currently provided by its Axelero division, will become T-Online and its business operations will change to T-Systems. An extraordinary meeting of Matáv shareholders is expected to endorse the plan on 22 February. The move follows last year’s decision to re-brand its mobile arm Westel, to T-Mobile.
