Groups ponder Wind bid

17 Jan 2005

According to the Financial Times, investors interested in bidding for Italian cellco Wind will make themselves known this week. Among those which have already declared their interest are a consortium led by Eqypt’s Orascom Telecom and another from US private equity house Blackstone. Analysts have also declared France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom as possible bidders thanks to their lack of presence in the Italian market. Publicly Enel, the current owner of Wind, has said it is sticking to plans to float the company in 2006, but many within the industry believe that the utility would prefer to sell before then.
