The new Saudi mobile licensee Etisalat has concluded a roaming agreement with the incumbent operator Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) which will allow it to offer nationwide services when it launches later this quarter. The three-year deal also allows Etisalat to use STC’s telephone towers for the construction of its own network. UAE-based Etisalat was awarded the Kingdom’s second GSM concession last year with a bid of SAR12.21 billion (USD3.25 billion). It plans to roll out infrastructure in the country’s 14 main cities by its planned launch date in March, by which time it expects to have capacity for around one million subscribers. STC currently has around 8.5 million mobile customers.
