MIC takes customer base to 7.7 million

Luxembourg-based Millicom International Cellular (MIC) added 859,968 net new customers in the fourth quarter of 2004, to take its total base to 7.7 million, an increase of 12.6% on the previous quarter and a 36% rise on the same period of 2003. Proportional subscribers stood at 5.3 million. The operator said that its Vietnamese operation showed exceptional growth, following price reductions introduced earlier in the year, while its Latin American and Pakistan units have also seen significant increases thanks to increased marketing initiatives, such as the Tigo re-branding in Latin America.
