Centertel takes more steps towards 3G launch

11 Jan 2005

Polish wireless operator Centertel has chosen Nokia as the infrastructure supplier for its 3G network in Warsaw. The Finnish equipment manufacturer has been supplying technology for Centertel’s test UMTS network in the capital. The cellco is yet to announce a main technology supplier for its nationwide 3G rollout, but it is widely thought that the contract will go to Nortel Networks, although Nokia and Alcatel are also competing in the tender. Centertel’s president Slawomir Skrodzki said the network’s intended launch date was the end of the second quarter of 2005, with coverage reaching all major cities by the end of the year.
