6 Jan 2005

Shiro Tsuda, president of Japanese cellco Vodafone KK, said yesterday that the company intends to encourage subscribers to migrate to 3G services by offering its last 2G handset next year. Vodafone hopes to see half of its customers switch to 3G handsets within three years. At the end of September 2004 only 261,100 of Vodafone’s 15.17 million subscribers were using 3G handsets; market leader NTT DoCoMo claimed 6.49 million 3G subscribers from a customer base of 47.36 million.
