9,000 hotspots – and rising

5 Jan 2005

By the end of last year there were more than 9,000 hotspots in operation in Japan offering users download speeds of up to 5Mbps. NTT’s international services unit NTT Communications owns around 2,200 of the total and provides Wi-Fi links in 165 subway stations in the capital. By the end of March the company hopes to have boosted coverage in railway stations, airports, hotels and restaurants to 3,000 sites.
