Five make play for wireless licences

22 Dec 2004

According to the telecoms regulator of Trinidad and Tobago, five bids have been received for the island’s two new wireless licences. Bidders include Cingular (in association with NatTel), Jamaican cellco Digicel and local companies Telkom Caribe and Laqtel. All bids will be subject to a pre-qualification process, expected to be completed by March 2005, after which an auction will be held. The concessions are non-technology specific and include spectrum in the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands.
