Three million ditch mobile in 2004

16 Dec 2004

According to figures from the Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT), the number of wireless users in Taiwan has dipped by over three million in the first ten months of 2004, from 25.21 million in January to 22.03 million at the end of October. Two reasons have been offered in explanation: firstly that operators have begun counting only active subscriptions and secondly that the proportion of customers with two or more phones or SIM cards dropped from 40% to 25% during the period. Chunghwa continues to lead in terms of market share, with 8.26 million customers at the end of October, compared to Taiwan Cellular’s (including Mobitai and TransAsia) 7.21 million and FarEasTone’s (including KG) 6.55 million.
