Nortel bags major BSNL deal

India’s largest telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has awarded Canadian equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks a contract valued at approximately USD500 million to expand its GSM/GPRS network in the east and south of the country. The deal, which is due to be completed in the first half of 2005, will see Nortel deploy GSM base stations, mobile switching centres and other related equipment.
