Subtel assesses wireless market

8 Dec 2004

Chilean telecoms regulator Subtel is reported to be continuing its investigations into the implications on the wireless market of the merger between Telefonica Movil and BellSouth Chile. According to Business News Americas, Subtel is considering whether the enlarged company will be required to return some of its spectrum. If it does so, a public tender could be held to reassign the frequencies. Moreover, as part of a wider analysis of the wireless market, Subtel is looking at drafting mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) regulations which would allow operators to resell minutes on another operator’s network.
