MTC-Vodafone upgrades with Cisco

8 Dec 2004

Bahrain’s newest mobile operator, MTC-Vodafone, has upgraded its network with IP infrastructure supplied by Cisco Systems. The telco, which also has operations in Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq, says it plans to roll out networks in these four markets with a total capacity of five million lines by the end of next year. Kuwait-based MTC-Vodafone was awarded a cellular licence in Bahrain in April 2003 and launched its first services there at the end of last year. It had attracted around 20,000 customers by mid-2004, well behind the former monopoly operator Batelco which had just under 500,000.
