Telstra and Hutchison sign 3G deal

6 Dec 2004

Australian mobile operators Telstra and Hutchison have officially signed a 3G network sharing deal, enabling Telstra to begin offering 3G services from 1 July 2005. Under the terms of the deal, first announced in August, Telstra will pay USD450 million in four instalments for a 50% ownership of Hutchison’s infrastructure. Telstra initially plans to offer 3G services to customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth over Hutchison’s existing 2,000 3G base stations. The partnership will be managed by a small administrative group, 3GIS Pty Ltd.
