Vivo hoping for Christmas present

The president of the Brazilian mobile operator Vivo is predicting a happy Christmas for his company with sales expected to leap over the festive season. Francisco Padinha says he expects the company to add more than 2.7 million new subscribers by the end of the year. Vivo, which is a joint venture between Portugal Telecom and Telefónica Móviles, began 2004 with more than 20.65 million customers and by the end of September had 24.65 million. According to a report from Agencia Estado, Padinha is predicting another bumper year in 2005, with subscriber growth of around 30% forecast.
