Europe’s web users reach 100 million – over half are broadband subscribers

According to a report by market research group Nielsen/NetRatings, the number of internet subscribers in Europe reached 100 million at the end of October 2004, an increase of around 12% in the year. The report found that 54.5 million were broadband users, up from 34.1 million twelve months earlier – a rise of 60%. Italy showed the biggest increase in its broadband customer base (120%), followed by the UK where subscriber numbers nearly doubled.
