The smallest of Colombia’s three cellular operators is expecting to add a million new subscribers during 2005. Colombia Móvil, which is owned by the fixed line telcos ETB and EPM and operates under the name Ola, currently has around 1.16 million customers. The company’s president León Darío Osorio says it is working hard to improve service quality and increase network capacity. He told local newspaper El Heraldo: “We are optimistic about the future because of the last few months’ financial and operational indices. The most important challenge is still customer service and we plan important investments in this area.” Colombia Móvil competes with Comcel and BellSouth Colombia, which had 4.74 million and 2.67 million subscribers respectively at the end of September.
