Boffins open new lab to look at mobile health risks

30 Nov 2004

Scientists at a new laboratory in the UK are to study potential health risks linked to mobile phone towers. The lab, based at the University of Essex, will allow the replication of electromagnetic waves emitted by radio towers and 3G transmitters. The research will investigate claims from members of the public that phone masts can cause symptoms such as dizziness and breathing problems. The densely-populated country will have an estimated 50,000 mobile phone base stations by the end of 2005.
