Harvey Chang, president and CEO of Taiwan’s second largest mobile operator Taiwan Cellular, has expressed doubts over the success of 3G services in the country, suggesting that it will take at least two years for the next-generation technology to start generating any substantial revenues. The cellco, which plans to invest TWD10 billion (USD311 million) in developing its 3G network, said that it would delay the launch date from late 2004 to mid-2005. Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone have also delayed their 3G launch dates.
